“I saw her standing there and that was it for me.”
Claire looked up at Charlie from her position on the floor. She absentmindedly rubbed her belly and tried to push away the rising feelings of jealousy.
“Did you…”
Claire stopped to clear the sudden lump in her throat.
“Did you fall in love with her?”
Charlie took a moment before responding,
“Yes, I did.”
Claire closed her eyes against the rushing tide of pain and didn’t notice Charlie’s hesitant approach.
“And I’m hoping she’ll love me back.”
Claire smiled through the tears as Charlie pressed his lips against hers.
